We have been talking to a few IT businesses and been noticing a massive increase of cybercrime activity trying to take advantage of the current COVID-19 situation. There are a number of phishing schemes already out there, and Microsoft has just announced there are a number of known exploits in Windows that are being taken advantage of at the moment.
We will never ask you to authorise withdrawals without you knowing exactly what we are doing for you and we will always speak to you if there is a transaction authorisation required.
There are also fake COVID-19 tracking applications which launch attacks once downloaded on your phone. So now, more than ever, be vigilant with all your IT security. This means:
- Do not open any email attachments from anyone that you do not know or trust.
- Do not click on any links in emails that are not from a source that you know and trust, especially ones that are sharing a document or similar.
- Do not be suckered into ‘please help’ emails asking for anything to assist with the current COVID-19 situation.
- If in doubt, just delete it.
- Make sure that your PC/Mac operating system is up to date AND your iPhone/Android operating system is up to date as this will contain the latest security patches.
